FRA slates hearings on environmental report for Texas bullet train
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on Jan. 29 will begin a series of 10 public hearings on its draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for the proposed bullet train project in Texas. The first public hearing will be held in Dallas County. Others will be held in locations along the proposed route, which would extend from North Texas to Houston. The FRA is accepting comments on the DEIS until Feb. 20. The report analyzed six end-to-end build alternatives as well as the no-build alternative. The build alternatives include a terminal station in Dallas and an intermediate station in Grimes County near College Station, home of Texas A&M University. Additionally, the DEIS evaluated three Houston terminal station options: the Industrial Site Terminal, the Northwest Mall Terminal and the Northwest Transit Center Terminal. The FRA unveiled the DEIS last month. Comments on it may be made by sending an email to DallasHoustonHSR@urs.com or by visiting the FRA's comment section.
